What is networking? Networking is basically just meeting new people and building relationships. Just like how you meet new people and make new friends, when you network you meet new people and build relationships with people in your industry with shared expertise, skills and background.

Why should I network? Nowadays, 80% of available jobs are not traditionally advertised. Those jobs are being filled via word of mouth. When an organization needs to hire someone, they go to the people they know and trust and ask them for recommendations. The larger your professional network, the more opportunities you will hear about.

How do I network? Join LinkedIn and start connecting with people. Attend networking events and start meeting people. Reach out to the people in your life (friends, neighbors, teachers, etc.) and ask them for introductions to people they know.
